Results of fourth festival for gamers and cosplayers – WEGAME
WEGAME 4.0: eSports, cosplay, and fun
On April 21-22, Smile-Expo held the fourth major festival for game and cosplay lovers – WEGAME – in Kyiv. This year, we managed to organize a record-breaking meetup: the first day of the event was attended by as many people as the previous events brought together in general.
Smile-Expo is a leading company in conducting major events. It was the fourth time that we arranged a real holiday for geeks and gamers in Kyiv. This time, the festival featuring an intensive competitive and show program was visited by the greater amount of enthusiasts than ever.
Lecture zone of WEGAME 4.0
Not only did guests enjoy the spectacular entertainment program of WEGAME 4.0, but they also listened to presentations by serious game development specialists. Specialized lectures on the main stage were given by game industry experts from Ukraine, Poland, and the USA.
Two days of WEGAME 4.0 open lectures involved 11 speakers. The following participants revealed the game development issues:
- Maksym Bezugly, CEO at Attracti;
- Alexander Dzyuba, CEO at Sense.Vision;
- Alexandr Shapovalov, Art Director at IDA GAMES;
- Wojciech Pazdur, Director of Development at The Farm 51;
- Svyatoslav Kholod, Game Designer at Zadzen;
- John Uke, Founder and СЕО at GameTree PBC;
- Pavlo Oliinyk, QC Project Lead at UBISOFT.
Besides, the lecture zone also included presentations by such representatives as: Mariya Karpenko, a well-known Ukrainian cosplayer and founder of the costume laboratory FD Studio; Vitaly Demura and Alexander Trifan, game masters and founders of Vecherniye Kosti (Evening Bones) community (Rebirth of the Real Role-playing Games and their online focus); Ivan Danishevsky, founder of ESM.one (Cybersport is not child's play).
ESports tournaments: WEGAME VaultCup, MK:X, and FIFA
It has already become a tradition for our gaming festival to hold WEGAME VaultCup competitions supported by the VAULT computer club. A huge eSports zone and challenging competitions in three disciplines: LoL, Dota 2, and CS:GO. A total prize pool was 30 000 UAH.
HyperX, a manufacturer of gaming computer peripherals, was our exclusive partner of the eSports tournament zone and prepared gifts for winners.
The first places were taken by the following teams:
- CS:GO – Wanted Hator;
- Dota 2 – Vito Papucci;
- LoL – Gortez Team.
Moreover, a location for MK:X and FIFA games was a special surprise for gamers. Winners received prizes from zone sponsors: Logitech and Respawn Game Bar.
Cosplay show
The most amazing and fascinating part of WEGAME 4.0 was a show involving professional and beginning cosplayers. The contest consisted of three categories: ‘Films, cartoons, and series’, ‘Comics and science fiction’, and ‘Video games’. Participants competed for the title of the best one, showing their works and artistry on the festival stage. WEGAME AWARDS ceremony
It was the second time that Smile-Expo conducted a unique awarding ceremony of the best companies in the video game development sector. Studios competed in seven categories this year. Leaders were determined by 11 experienced judges: professional publishers and game development specialists.
A special reward was given to a leading game according to show attendees. The Proze exploration game obtained the Audience Award of WEGAME AWARDS.
