Blockchain Conference Moscow: results of Russia’s major blockchain event

On April 17-18, Smile-Expo held the seventh major cryptocurrency event in the capital of Russia – Blockchain Conference Moscow. About thousand guests listened to conference speakers as well as attended an exhibition and a pitch zone.

Conference

We invited crypto experts from best-known international companies. Speakers included representatives of IBM, PwC, and Dash, and politicians developing cryptocurrency laws in the Russian Federation.

René Bostic, Technical Vice President of Innovation and New Technologies at IBM Cloud, introduced a case study with Maersk Logistics Company. IBM specialist explained how blockchain-based solutions could help to control goods delivery by sea.

“We are going to simplify the cooperation between customers and sellers by improving the communication process for both parties,” René Bostic says.

The general mood of presentations has shown that the Russian blockchain industry sees the future of the international cryptocurrency market in a positive way. Robert Wiecko, Dash Project Manager, believes that Russia’s blockchain market is one of the most ambitious and promising ones for his company.

Dmitriy Potapenko, a managing partner of Management Development Group, thinks that the absence of single digital asset definitions is the most significant current challenge of the blockchain community.

Elina Sidorenko, the head of the interdepartmental working group on cryptocurrency turnover risk assessment of the Russian Federation, told the audience about the crypto industry regulation within the country. She stated that cryptocurrency laws would be hardly adopted in Russia in the near future.

“I fear that this process can take longer. Ministries can fail to agree upon mechanisms of adopting certain law provisions,” Elina Sidorenko believes.

Exhibition

Once again, Smile-Expo provided event guests with a large exhibition area. It brought together crypto industry leaders: mining equipment providers, blockchain platforms, payment systems, mining centers, marketing companies, and high-tech startups.

There was a wide range of mining hardware and related goods. Such companies as Dragonmint, Atiko, Acron Tech, Bitferma, MinerShop, 51 ASIC, MYRIG, and Bitmoney presented stands with ASICs, cooling systems, video cards, and power supply units.

Dash showed its latest solution: Dash Evolution, a payment system without transaction fees that conducts operations in seconds.

Pitch zone

For the first time at Blockchain Conference Moscow, Smile-Expo introduced a new zone. Not only did it feature a pitch session involving exhibitors but also open lectures allowing cryptocurrency experts to share their experience with the audience.

Igor Voronin, a partner at Swiss Quote Bank, explained how to trade cryptocurrencies safely. Nikolay Güntner, a representative of Bitfury, gave tips on integrating blockchain into businesses. Alexei Mikheev, an expert in cryptocurrency investment, mining and ICOs, revealed the operational concept of smart contracts. Leonid Foiu-Khatskevych, a community manager at 482.solutions, talked about benefits of bounty campaigns. Igor Porokh, an analyst and trader at iTuber, analyzed principles of cryptocurrency interaction.

What comes next?

The network of Blockchain & Bitcoin Conferences will grow this year: we will hold events in Australia, France, Finland, and Georgia for the first time. By the way, the nearest event will take place on May 17 in the capital of the Czech Republic – Blockchain & Bitcoin Conference Prague.
