EU countries decided to introduce excise tax on vaping devices. Thus, European Commission is to develop a legislative draft by 2017.
Excise tax on analogic smoke consumption products comprises 57% now, but as for vaping, it’s not more than 20% in the European Union countries. Rapid growth of vaping market is seen by the authorities as another source of income. Each day, more and more people turn to safe vapor, despite constant attempts of authorities to prevent this.
Decision to increase excise tax has been accepted after the regular report from one of the members of the European Commission last year. It highlighted the dissatisfaction about the lack of necessary taxes on some products, which can negatively influence the market and economy as a whole.
French representatives stated that they wanted to reach the highest common denominator for minimum level of excise tax on eCigs. Other countries want to make the decisions relating this issue by themselves.
No doubt, price for vaping devices and the accessories will be increasing in the nearest future.
Meanwhile, the news came as a shock to vaping community. Nonetheless, EU representatives stated that the idea is still under consideration.
ECigs are not necessary compared with unhealthy analogies. It’s essential to study the market and solve many technical issues before adopting decisions. There’s no reason for panicking and making hasty judgments.
Of course, everyone is aware of the challenges that vaping industry would face. Positive influence of eCigs on people who have a pernicious habit could help to create a democratic excise tax on all vaping market.
